ADMINISTRATION
POLICE MEDICAL SERVICES
The Administration Police Medical Services was
initially formed to provide medical services
to the trainees, with
limited staff and resources. As need for quality health care is
a right of
all Administration Police personnel, the unit spread
out its services to the AP Training College
personnel and their
families which later encompassed the residents of the adjacent estates
with
the vision of providing quality health services to the APs
their families and the communities
The core functions of the unit are;
- To provide curative services
- To provide protective services
- To provide preventive services |

The unit has since spread out its services to reach
Administration Police in the field and has established several dispensaries
and health centres including;
- Security of Government Building (Uhuru Camp)
health centre
- Kakamega dispensary
- Kisumu Dispensary
- Mandera Dispensary
- Garissa Dispensary

The unit is headed by the Chief of Medical Services
Assistant Commandant of Administration Police

The Administration Police Aids Control Unit was
officially launched on 23rd July, 2004 deriving it
s mandate from
the mother body National Aids Control Council.
Since its launch several activities have taken
place beginning with the training of HIV/Aids peer educators,
where
over 600 Administration Police personnel have been
trained in all
districts whose terms of reference are;
To provide the basic facts about the HIV/AIDS
virus and its impacts at the workplace including
social, economic,
physical and organization capacity.
- Learn
intervention measures that can prevent transmission of HIV/AIDS
including the ABC
- Explore
the major challenges being faced in the control and prevention
of HIV/AIDS
- Learn
the methods of managing HIV/AIDS including nursing care, Clinical
Care, Home Based Care,
Counseling and Social Support.
- To
spell out the response of the Government to the HIV/AIDS pandemic
since 1984 and have an
insight to various programs put in place
to fight the HIV/AIDS.
- To
define the role of Peer Educators in the context to examine the
strategies workplace.
- Examine
the strategies that can be used to address HIV/AIDS in the workplace.
- Explore
the process as well as the steps in HIV/AIDS counseling and testing.
- Identify
factors that influence sexual behaviour
- Identify
and discuss factors/issues that promote risky sexual behaviour.
- Determine
the methods of promoting behavior change
The objective of Administration Police Sub-ACU
therefore is to reduce HIV/Aids pandemic
infection rate
amongst
the Administration Police officers and their families
