SPORTS
Abel Kirui wins Gold in Berlin
AP Inter-Province Championship held at Nyayo Stadium
In recognition
of the various individual sporting talents and as a way of engaging
officers while away from core duties,
the Administration Police
established its Sports Council in 2001. This Council has since been
affiliated to Athletics
Kenya.
Besides running
on the AK Calendar, the Administration Police has an annual sporting
calendar which brings together
its men and women countrywide to
compete in various disciplines.
Prior to the
establishment of the AP Sports Council, the AP had a good number
of sportsmen who were taking part in
national and international
meetings under the umbrella of other existing sporting bodies e.g.
The Prisons Service.
With the formation of the Sports Council, the
AP has seen an increased level of competitiveness as well as enhanced
cohesiveness among the Administration Police personnel. Besides
this, untapped talent has been brought to the
fore and more AP personnel
have emerged winners and have continued to represent the Country
in various events.
The AP Sports Council oversees the following sporting events in
the Force including;
• Athletics
• Boxing
• Football
• Darts
• Volleyball
• Tae Kwon Do
Since its inception
the Administration Police Sports Council has successfully managed
to hold six annual
inter-provincial Sports Championships.
Athletics
The Administration
Police Athletic team was formed from ordinary AP personnel who joined
the Force without
special consideration during their enlistment.
Through AP sporting activities their talents have been developed.

a result of these activities many Administration Police athletes

several local
and international events.
